Tanjung Gemok has a jetty that services trips from Pahang to Tioman Island. It is situated on one side of Endau River bank. Endau River separates Rompin in Pahang and Mersing in Johor.

Tanjung Gemok is a very small but modern village. It has vacant lots for stalls and shops near the jetty but these vacant lots looked old even though the jetty is a new jetty (as I was told). It also has a police shed which looks like a small clock tower. There is one small budget hotel here for those who would like to stay overnight.

To come to this place, take an express bus from Kuantan that goes to Mersing and tell the driver you want to stop at Tanjung Gemok. The bus will stop in front of some shoplots where one shoplot sells express bus ticket. However, I was told that they have only one afternoon bus to Kuantan not only that day but everyday. Therefore, it is easy to go to Tanjung Gemok but difficult to return to Kuantan. The Tanjung Gemok authorities must do something about this. If not, the project will fail.

There are at least 2 ferry companies services Tanjung Gemok and Tioman Island. I think they have at least 3 trips a day, one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one before 4 pm. Tourist are advised to ask the ferry service companies for the time because the schedules are not fixed. Sometimes they have to cancel trips due to weather.

As for the spelling of Tanjung Gemok name, the Marina is spelt as Tanjung Gemuk Marina and the jetty it known as Tanjung Gemuk Passenger Terminal. However, the police 'station' and road signs spelt it as Tanjung Gemok. For your information, gemuk is the new spelling for 'gemok' when Malaysia decided to standardised its national language. I guess they did not change the spelling of a place and that is why the place is still spelled as Tanjung Gemok. In fact, tanjung was previously spelt as tanjong and short for tanjung is tg.
