The capital of Sarawak is Kuching. Kuching's transportation is ok to me because I walked to most of the popular places of interest. Kuching has its main bus terminal scattered near the Kuching Divisional Mosque and the open market area. I took one bus to Kuching International Airport near the Kuching Divisional Mosque area.

Sarawak has one international airport called Kuching International Airport. This airport is about 10 km from Kuching town. Sarawak has many other airports such as Sibu Airport, Bintulu Airport and Miri Airport. Sarawk is about 80% undeveloped and therefore to reached hilly forest areas, Short Take-Off and Landing Airports (STOL) were built. Some popular STOLs are Mulu, Kapit, Mukah and Bario. Others are Long Seridan, Long Lellang, Long Semado, Long Akah, Bakelalan and Belaga.

Another very important transportation method in Sarawak is by boat. Boats can that goods and people deep into the forest and mountains without destroying the environment of the forest and mountains. I went to an Iban native village in Lemanak using motorised longboat which can carry 4 passengers and 2 boatmen only.

Sarawak has many variety of local cultures because of its many, about 27 ethnic groups. However, intermarriage among the different ethnic groups are common in Sarawak. Sarawakians practice all the main religions such as Islam, Christianity, Buddism, Hinduism, Toaism and an other religions including animism.

The local food in Sarawak especially in Kuching, is not much different from the food in Peninsula Malaysia because the majority of the locals in towns are chinese and malay. Welknown fast food outlets such as McDonald and Kentucky can be easily found the in bigger towns.
