Cheng Beng or 'All Souls' Day' is the day where the chinese people will pray to their ancestors. The prayer can be done at home as shown in the top right photo. Some people do not do prayers at home so they either go to the graveyard (second row photo) or to temples where they had placed the bones or to places where the 'planks' of their ancestors were placed.

During this time, grass will be weeded out from the sand on top of the grave. 'After-life paper' will be placed on top of the grave. Some people will put flags and some will put stones on top of the 'paper'. Some food, usually must have 3 types of meat and some fruits will be offered during prayers. Of course, if the family/person was vegetarian, then meat must be out. After praying, some after-life money will be burnt.

The photos on the right were some places I went with my parents for Cheng Beng. The top row photos were at Batu Lanchang cemetery. We went there for my grandfather's father and grandfather's mother prayers. The left second row photo shows my grandfather's grandmother's grave. My mum said she was the one who took care of my grandfather most of the time when he was small. The last row photo show a small grave for my grandfather's eldest brother which passed away when he was small.
