Perak is a state located south of Penang and Kedah, north of Selangor and west of Pahang. Its latitute coordinate is about 4o45'N and longitude coordinate is about 101o'E. Perak has population of about 2.5 million with 54% Malays, 31% chinese and 13% indians. Majority of its people can speak English and Bahasa Malaysia / Melayu. As for chinese dialect, Cantonese is mainly used. There are many interesting historical places in Perak like Taiping in the north-west, Kuala Kangsar in the upper centre, Pasir Salak and Pulau Pangkor in the south-west and of course the Kinta Valley in the eastern central area.

Perak has a land area of 21,006 km2. The land is built of built-up of varies geological structure such as granite, limestone. The Main Range (Titiwangsa Range) passes through the eastern side of Perak. This made Perak rich in flora, fauna and also natural ecological structures like caves, lakes and rivers. The jungle consists of Tropical Rainforest, Recreational forest and Mangroves forest. There are natural lakes like Chenderoh Lake and man-made lakes like Temenggor Lake, Taiping Lake and Bukit Merah Lake. The rivers are also popular for white-water rafting activities.

The capital of Perak is Ipoh. I found the public transportation in Ipoh is quite good. There frequency of buses is quite good, the exhaust emmission is not dirty and the fare is fair. Taxis could be seen moving along the roads in Ipoh. I found the traffic in Ipoh better and less than Penang maybe because the roads are wider. I think there are less motorbikes in Ipoh too. The KTM railway track passes through Perak from Parit Buntar at the north-west to Tanjung Malim at the south-east. Perak state airport, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport is located at the southern of Ipoh.

Beautiful historical places can be found in Kuala Kangsar like Royal Museum (Istana Kenangan), Iskandariah Palace, Ubudiah Mosque and Sultan Azlan Shah Gallery. For older historical sites, Taiping would be a good place to visit with places like British Resident's Residence, Perak Museum, Taiping Lake Gardens, Taiping Zoo and Maxwell Hill. Nature lovers and eco-tourist can get away to Hulu Perak area with places like Temenggor Lake, Raban Lake, Lata Kekabu & Tanjung Kala for waterfalls, Gendang Cave and Badak & Harimau caves.

Frankly speaking, I do not know about the food in Perak. I tried the Hakka Mee (hmm ... if not mistaken), after Ipoh Star Walk 2009 on 21-Jun-2009 and found that it was like some 'wan than mee' with only the mee plus yong tau foo. I like the mee but not like the soup and Yong Tau Foo taste better. Oh! I forgot to take a photo of it. My second visit will be with my tour guiding classmates on mid-July 2009.
