Gohtong Jaya Awana Skyway Chin Swee Temple Transportation
Genting Highlands is the highest hill resort at about 1800m above sea level. It is located at the Ulu Kali mountain range on the western side of Titiwangsa Range in Pahang, about 64km north-east of Kuala Lumpur. It was founded in 1965 by Lim Goh Tong. The weather here is just nice, not too cold and not hot, about 20oC.

Genting Highlands is different from the other hill resorts because it is based on the theme called City of Entertainment. From this theme, you can definately find entertainment facilities or outlets such as cinema or arenas, casinos, theme parks, food outlets apart from hotels and apartments. Due to this and the weather, Genting Highlands is the most popular hill resort or should I say the most popular resort in Malaysia.

Genting Highlands has at least 5 hotels. They are Genting Hotel (1st hotel built in 1978, 5-stars hotel), Highlands Hotel (5-stars hotel), Resort Hotel (4-stars hotel), Theme Park Hotel (3-stars hotel) and First World Hotel (6,200 rooms, 3rd most number of rooms in the world, 3-stars hotel). So, accommodation is usually not a problem during normal days but tourists are encourage to call them for stay from Friday to Sunday.

Before reaching Genting Highlands, there is a small township called Gohtong Jaya which is situated about 950m above sea level. Very near this place, there is the skyway called Genting Skyway which connects to Highlands Hotel with a length of 3.8 km, taking 15 - 20 minutes from one point to the other making it the fastest sky cable car in the world and longest in Southeast Asia. This is actually the Genting Highland's second cable car which was opened in 1997. It is opened everyday from 7:30am to 11:00pm / midnight on Saturday. The fee per trip is about RM5.00. This place has activities such as horse riding, golfing, abseiling, rock climbing and jungle trekking and Awana Golf & Country Resort is with in area.

The first skyway in Genting Highlands is Awana Skyway. It started operation in 1974. Now, it is opened only on Saturday from 12:15pm to 7:30am and Sunday from 11:15am to 7:30 am for tourist to enjoy the night view. The rate for both the skyways are about RM5.00 per person per one way ride.

Another place of interest very near the main Genting Highlands area is Chin Swee Temple. However, I advise tourist to take Gentings free shuttle bus to the temple. Lastly, kindly help keep this place clean by throwing your rubbish into dustbins.

Food is easily available as there are many restaurants in Genting Highlands. There restaurants for chinese cuisine, indian cuisines, local food and fast food such as Kentucky and McDonald's. Even in Gohtong Jaya, many restaurants or coffee shops are available.

For transportation to Genting Highlands, most tourist will take an express bus from Kuala Lumpur until the skyway near GohTong Jaya. Then they will take the cable car to Highlands Hotel. Almost everywhere in Genting Highlands is free except for the theme park games, restaurants and some entertainment areas. The casinos even provide free drinks to its visitors. Therefore, anyone can just walk around the surrounding areas.
